05 12 2008 - Food Systems Unlimited Unveils New School Lunch Program!
Longwood, Florida (May X, 2008) – Food Systems Unlimited, Inc. (FSU) a leading restaurant management company based in Longwood, Florida announced today that it has developed and launched a school lunch program, consistent with National nutrition guidelines, and is unveiling it in the schools across Orange County, Florida. The program follows the guidelines and expectations of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), and will feature food selections from the Company’s innovative Asian Chao restaurants. “We are extremely excited to introduce our National school lunch program for the schools in Orange County, FL” stated Lincoln Yee, Director or Product Development. We believe this program delivers value and improves food diversity to the schools. We believe that be partnering with schools to provide better nutrition while improving food choices and quality will not only help the schools but improve our restaurants as well. When you consider our history, vision and leadership of our CEO, Biagio Schiano, this program is reflective of our attitudes and mission of our company to provide the highest quality Asian cuisine with a smile.” The launch of the school lunch program in Orange County is just the start of the Company’s very aggressive effort to establish the program in other counties and school systems across the state, and eventually nationwide. School children have clamored for something more than a typical school lunch and reports show that Asian cuisine is among their top choices. As part of the program, the Company will introduce to students a selection of some of its signature dishes, including: New Orleans Cajun Chicken, Tangerine Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Fried Rice, Egg rolls and branded and private labeled bottled water products. The NSLP is a federally assisted meal program. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and state education agencies work together to bring the program to local schools. The program is open to both public and non-profit private schools and to residential child-care institutions. About ninety-nine percent (99%) of all public schools currently participate in the program nationwide. The schools receive cash aid and donated goods from the USDA for each meal served. In return, schools serve meals that meet federal nutrition requirements. These meals must also be available for free or for a reduced-price for children who meet certain income levels. Children have the option of using the Lunch Program or bringing their lunch from home. According to estimates, approximately 55 million students in the United States eat lunch in school cafeterias, and just over half of that figure participates in the National School Lunch Program. “This effort helps to bring food diversity to school students, but in a healthy and hopefully educational way,” said Adnan Raja, Director of Business Development. “Asian Chao is among the most unique food concepts anywhere in the country, and we have leveraged our quality products, top-flight customer service, and terrific food to create a true food alternative for these children. We believe that food can help bridge cultural differences and this program allows kids to learn and understand more about the Asian culture through food.” Food Systems Unlimited has a total of 73 restaurant locations across the United States, 27 of which are in the state of Florida.
